Belle and Sebastian Dear Catastrophe Waitress

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Belle and Sebastian’s newest album, Dear Catastrophe Waitress is a distinct and clear success. After four years of relative quiet, the Scottish band is ready for the limelight. In an interview with National Public Radio’s Steve Inskeep, band founder and singer Stuart Murdoch said that the group has matured since its earlier days and is ready to take center stage.

The situation comedy style of Dear Catastrophe Waitress is brought forth by the addition of many unorthodox instruments, some sounding like triangles, slide whistles or maybe even a kazoo or two.

Although the new album has been described as “sunny and catchy,” and maybe a little “campy,” the songwriting for Dear Catastrophe Waitress follows more closely what the band has done before, probably from working with Frankie Goes to Hollywood producer Toby Horn.
